The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered includes a suite of accessibility options that lets players reduce some of the game’s mechanical demands. Used alongside the easier difficulty setting, the options can make Geralt’s adventure more relaxed and focused on its story.
In a developer commentary post on CD Projekt Red’s official forums, director of player experience Karolina Niewęgłowska explained the thinking behind the preset, called “Bard’s Ballad.” She said it is intended for people who have difficulty concentrating, experience cognitive fatigue, or simply feel tired and overwhelmed.
Niewęgłowska said the preset is for anyone who wants to play in a way that better suits their needs. She described it as an option for players with limited time and energy who want to enjoy the game without taking on additional challenges.
The preset also includes controls for minimap indicators, including options to hide herbs and corpses. Niewęgłowska noted that these markers can distract some players or create pressure to collect every item. Turning them off can help those who would rather focus on the story and world.
She also pointed to the growing amount of information and stimulation people encounter in digital environments, saying that tools to manage cognitive load are increasingly useful. The accessibility options are presented as ways to tailor the experience, rather than as cheats.
