Sony has released another system software update for the PlayStation 5, less than two weeks after the previous firmware version. Update 26.07-14.22.00 is now available to download and install.
The update includes a single patch note: Sony says it has made security fixes to the system software. Although the description is brief, the change is understood to be aimed at strengthening the console against jailbreak attempts.
Recent PS5 firmware updates have arrived as Sony works to close security vulnerabilities that could allow hackers and modders to modify the console. Jailbroken systems can be used to install emulators and pirated software.
The latest update follows a reported increase in PS5 jailbreaking activity, with tools making it easier to exploit the console. Sony’s rapid release of security-focused firmware has also intensified opposition from users involved in those efforts.
