Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered brings the nearly 25-year-old arena brawler to PS5 with its core gameplay largely intact. Players can control Godzilla and other creatures from his roster in fights across destructible city environments, with updated visuals, crisp textures and a stable frame rate.
Combat remains a highlight, rewarding well-timed attacks as monsters send each other flying through the scenery. The sound design also draws on iconic effects from the films. However, only four characters are available at the start, and some creatures are missing: Biollante is absent, while Hedorah has been removed from the remaster. Mothra remains playable.
The remaster also changes how characters and other content are unlocked. The system involves more grinding, although most items can be earned simply by playing. The story mode can be completed in around 15 minutes, while Survival and Destruction offer limited variety: one challenges players to keep fighting until they lose, and the other focuses on demolishing buildings for a high score.
The result is a brief but enjoyable return to kaiju combat, with strong presentation and familiar gameplay but little depth to encourage extended play. For Godzilla fans, the review still considers it a worthwhile experience.
