PlayStation is reportedly requiring PS5 owners to install the latest system software before they can play GTA 6. According to PlayStation Game Size, which examines information from the PlayStation Store backend, the game will require firmware version 14.22.00.00.
The reported requirement comes as Sony continues to address attempts to compromise PS5 firmware. Hackers began cracking versions ranging from 7.00 to 13.60 using AI tools at the start of last month, prompting Sony to release multiple system updates aimed at limiting the potential for emulators on the console.
Some PlayStation games have previously required the latest firmware to start, with Marvel's Wolverine cited as an example. However, the reported GTA 6 requirement would mean players need to install the current patch released today before launching Rockstar's open-world game.
PlayStation Game Size presented the firmware information as a finding from its own examination of the PlayStation Store backend. The report does not provide additional confirmation from Sony.
