Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered offers 12 kaiju for players to choose from when it launches on PlayStation 5 on November 3. Each fighter has distinct statistics, attacks and special abilities, making the choice especially important for newcomers.

Heisei Godzilla is the most accessible option, with high starting health and balanced attributes. His claws and tail make melee combos easy to use, although his powerful energy pulse takes time to charge and can leave him open. Godzilla 2000 provides a slightly faster but less powerful alternative, with a similarly balanced approach.

Players who prefer to control space can choose King Ghidorah. His projectiles and airborne lightning attack are effective for keeping opponents away, although his large frame, slow movement and limited melee abilities make close combat difficult. Mecha-King Ghidorah is another long-range option, combining projectiles, a shield and grappling tools, but his best abilities consume energy and he remains slow.

Anguirus is built around defense and counterattacks. His high defense, grappling skills and damaging rear spines make blocking particularly useful, despite his limited power and lack of long-range attacks. Megalon, by contrast, is suited to hit-and-run tactics, using burrowing to evade attacks and surprise opponents with grabs. His lower defense means players need to keep moving.

Gigan is designed for aggressive rushdown play. His speed, teleportation and powerful hook attacks give him strong melee and evasion tools, while his ranged options add flexibility. However, his Laser Eye can be difficult to handle and he is vulnerable to energy attacks.

Destoroyah serves as a powerful tank and mid-range fighter, with heavy physical attacks and several high-damage, sometimes unblockable, energy abilities. Those attacks consume a large amount of energy, while his movement is notably slow. Rodan takes the opposite approach, offering the fastest movement and strongest aerial mobility in the roster, along with effective breath and melee attacks. His extremely low defense makes direct exchanges risky.

For players seeking ranged firepower, Mechagodzilla brings lasers, missiles, a plasma cannon and strong defensive statistics. Its flying head-butt is another notable tool, but many of its attacks and flight consume energy, leaving it with slow movement and weaker melee options once that resource is depleted. Kiryu is a more balanced, weapons-focused alternative, with an energy-heavy arsenal and a powerful Absolute Zero Cannon rage attack.

Orga is the roster’s specialist grappler, using its long reach and powerful hands to dominate close and mid-range encounters. It can struggle against fast opponents or those resistant to blunt attacks, while its paralysing goo consumes considerable energy. Players who want a fast counter-attacker can instead turn to Anguirus, whose spines punish opponents that attack into his guard.

The roster also includes several distinct approaches to mobility and energy management. Rodan and Megalon rely on movement to avoid being pinned down, while Destoroyah, Mechagodzilla and both versions of King Ghidorah gain much of their strength from energy-based abilities. Choosing the right kaiju therefore depends on whether players prefer direct melee, ranged control, grappling, defense or speed.
