Studio Pearl Abyss has officially launched Charting the Unknown, a substantial downloadable content expansion for the open-world title Crimson Desert on PlayStation 5. The update is available immediately with a price tag of £19.99 or $24.99, building upon the game's existing post-launch additions.
The expansion introduces three distinct new questlines tailored for each of the game's playable characters. These missions are designated as post-game content, requiring players to have completed the base campaign before accessing them. The narrative scope covers an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey beyond time, and an ancient secret hidden beneath the waves.
Beyond the story elements, Charting the Unknown significantly expands gameplay mechanics by allowing players to sail their own ships across the seas and utilize diving suits for underwater exploration. Additional features include new options to customize player housing, systems for stronghold management, and the ability to romance specific characters leading to marriage. This release further enlarges the already massive playable space of Crimson Desert, which previously received an 8/10 score in a review noting its incredible highs despite some obtuse moments.
